Henry Gaida Church Organist’s Book of Hymns Review

Wow!  This is a really excellent resource for anyone, no matter how experienced.  I normally play the hymns straight from the hymnbook in four parts, but I'm sure that I will use many of these three-part settings for verses where a thinner texture would contrast nicely with the four-part, and Adoro Te is just wonderful.

The Chorale Preludes are well crafted and really set the tone for the hymn that follows, and are practical for contemporary service playing, I know that I will get a lot of mileage out of these little gems.  There seems, to me, anyway, a little bit of Dandrieu and Daquin in many of them, which really works quite well.  And, I've already used your Postlude on Grosser Gott after Mass on Fat Tuesday.

It isn't just a book for beginners, but a book for all, and I look forward to using it.
